So in my case Windows had never seen the ExifToolGUI files until I double clicked the desktop. Double clicking on the shortcut fired up ExifToolGUI. After the install I created a shortcut in the folder where the ExifToolGUI files were located and then copied this shortcut to my Windows desktop. I wiped the SSD OS, including doing a drive "clean" which takes it back to bare metal. In my case the ExifToolGUI files were on a non OS hard drive. I do use version 4.x of Exiftool GUI as I prefer it to 5.x. I just click on my shortcut to the GUI and it works just fine. I have put a copy of the Exiftool exe file in the Windows directory so Exiftool GUI will run Exiftool wherever it is located. I have no issues with Exiftool GUI running on Windows 10. I like the software, but I believe it is not worth my time in trying to get it to work any more. I am not inclined, at this point, to devote any more time to ExifToolGUI. "quirks" in Win10 that only manifest themselves in certain combinations of software and hardware (or possibly firmware).Īt any rate, I have given up on ExifToolGUI, and have settled on PhotoME, and in fact, I rather like how it integrates into my ACDSee workflow.
The reason I say this is, I have other software that some users have been unable to use, yet I and others run that software just fine. I personally believe there are compatibility problems between Win10, my specific PC, and ExifToolGui. Then I moved ExifTool to the same directory as ExifToolGui, and again no joy! I've tried a half dozen times following the directions in the ExifTool forums and on other web sites, and NOTHING works. So I moved a copy of ExifToolGUI to the same directory as ExifTool and got the same message. I tried installing according to this set of instructions : Īnd that was a no go.
